Spades find satisfaction in careers in construction (building), broadcasting and health care. How About That of the Day: Tibetan Mastiffs have apparently become something of a status symbol among the Chinese upper class, mostly due to their regard as a “pure Chinese” breed and their scarcity outside Tibet (take a moment to let that sentence sink in). Hong Dong (Big Splash), an 11-month-old, 180lb. Tibetan Mastiff (pictured above) was recently awarded the honor of being labeled the “world’s most expensive dog” after being purchased by a Chinese coal baron for 10 million yuan (~$1.5 million).
“He is a perfect specimen,” Lu Liang, Big Splash’s breeder, said of the dog. “He has excellent genes and will be a good breeding dog. When I started in this business, ten years ago, I never thought we would see such a price.”
The previous record holder, a Tibetan Mastiff named Yangtze River Number Two, sold in 2009 for four million yuan.
